Amazon.com Product Description Audio-Technica's AT-PL120 direct-drive, high-torque professional turntable is perfect for DJs and other music enthusiasts, especially in an era that many would call "postvinyl," when it's no longer the norm for audio/video receivers or even integrated amplifiers to offer a dedicated phono input. A selectable internal stereo phono preamplifier lets you plug the turntable directly into any line-level input, even your PC's (when used with a stereo RCA to minijack "Y" adapter cable, not included). Alternately, you can use the player's phono output and an outboard, higher-quality phono preamplifier for even better sound quality. The AT-PL120's S-shaped tone arm assembly comes with an adjustable counterweight, an antiskate adjustment, a tone-arm height adjustment and lock, a tone-arm lift with hydraulic action and lift lever, and a tone-arm rest with a locking mechanism to keep the arm stable during transport. The turntable uses a DC servo motor to maintain accurate rotational speed at either 33-1/3 45, or 78 rpm, governed by a selectable, high-accuracy quartz-controlled pitch lock--all of which gives new life to 7- and 12-inch singles you may not have played for years. Unleash your inner DJ with the 'table's pitch-adjustment feature, with variations ranging from either +/-10 percent or +/-20 percent. A pop-up stylus target light and stroboscopic platter speed indicator offer visual assistance in queuing and playing your favorite tunes. Forward and reverse play options unlock countless creative doors (and haven't you always wondered what Prince is saying at the end of "Darling Nikki"?). The 'table comes with a cast-aluminum record platter, a slip mat, and a professional cartridge and headshell (model ATP-2) that plugs directly into the tone arm. Adjustable, antivibrational feet keep the platter level, regardless of your environs. A start/stop button with remote start/stop input lets you integrate the player with your more sophisticated DJ tools. The player also includes a 45 rpm adapter with storage receptacle for the adapter and for a surplus or replacement headshell (sold separately). What's in the Box Turntable, removable hinged dust cover, slip mat, headshell/cartridge (ATP-2), AC power cord, 45 rpm adapter, and a user's manual.

CAUTION CAUTION August 26, 2010 AJB Just received this item from Beach Camera, August of 2010, and what you get is the USB model, NOT the plain non USB model. Beach says the non USB is simply not available, and after some checking around online that seems to be correct. This listing on Amazon should simply be removed or Beach should be removed as the low cost supplier at a minimum. There is a video on you tube that shows how to disconnect the USB card from the phono circuit permanently, as it has been reported that some capacitors on the USB card reamain in the cartrage circuit even with the USB output switched off. Looks like I'll be digging out the soldering gun.
Press START/STOP button - turntable DOES NOT ROTATE August 14, 2010 Penberg 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered this item for my husband's birthday. It arrived in good time. The box showed some possible damage, but not much. The packing inside the box was on one side, pushing the interior box up against the outer wall. Regardless, all seemed OK. I carefully read all instructions and followed the assembly steps. Finally, to get the machine to operate you are supposed to do two things. First, you turn on the POWER ON/OFF button. This worked fine. All the lights and indicators lighted up. Next you are supposed to press the START/STOP button and then the turntable will begin to rotate. But NOTHING HAPPENED - no sound, no rotation, no anything. I read up on problems on the Web and also contacted the manufacturer by email. From Web discussion it seems that "inside the box" which a layman should never open, some major connection is disconnected. The manufacturer's return email said to return the item to the reseller for an exchange (thus indicating that no SIMPLE SUGGESTION could fix this problem). The website for this reseller says that once you open the manufacturer's container for a phonograph, you're on your own, they won't accept return. So now I have to sort all this out. Meanwhile, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! for a $250 item. I plan to file an Amazon Shipping/Packaging review and to pursue getting an exchange item, but good luck! I also plan to edit this review or add another one later when this "case" gets a little further along. Meanwhile I want to warn all buyers that THIS IS NOT ROSES - PROBLEMS exist!!
Great player at any price. July 31, 2010 Brian (Reading, PA) I bought the AT-LP120 approximately a week ago and I love it. The sound quality has come along way from what I remember of past turntables. (Although I have never really owned a good player until now.)
A few highlights:
* The playback speed is spot on. The strobe light doesn't waver and I cannot hear any "warble" while listening. It is also capable of playing back 78 rpm records. (Make sure you purchase the correct stylus (and cartridge) as 78's use a wider groove and narrow groove needles will pretty much only playback noise.)
* Mechanical isolation is very good. I can fiddle with the controls on my other equipment in my rack (which isn't the sturdiest) and I cannot hear any "bumps" and there is no skipping. Even when playing at very high volume levels, there is no bass "feedback" transmitted through the feet of the player.
* The sound quality of the installed ATP-2 is very good. It has controlled bass response and "good enough" highs. (I say "good enough" highs, because they seem weak compared to CDs, but CDs tend to be a little harsh anyway and the LP is probably more accurate to the original recording.)
The only thing I wish this player had was automatic shutoff when you reach the end of an album (so the needle wouldn't get damaged if left on too long.)
You will not regret the purchase of this player. I hear lots of chatter that the Technics 1200 turntables are better and they probably are, but they also start at three times the price. For $200, I doubt you are going to find anything better.
One final note, I will be spending another $100 on upgrading this player already. I have read that changing out the ATP-2 cartridge for an Audio-Technical AT440MLa cartridge will make a large improvement in sound quality and tracking and take this unit to a whole new level. (Please don't misunderstand me, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the included ATP-2 cartridge.)
Enjoy.
Great. July 11, 2010 Dravo Hastings Everything works and sounds great. I was a little confused at first because I know nothing about turntables, but the directions walked me through how to do everything. Make sure you take the time to set up the needle and the weight and everything correctly. I also read about a hum that some people hear, but I don't hear any kind of hum.
Not the item as described! June 16, 2010 John W. Kelton (Loganville, GA) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I ordered the AT-PL120 from Beach Camera through Amazon.com. The ad page said they had "one in stock." I did not want the USB model (AT-LP120USB) because of the bad reviews about the built-in preamp being poor quality. I get the shipping confirmation from Beach, and it states that my AT-LP120USB product is shipped. I told them I did not order that model, and they tell me that is what is on the invoice. My options are to either 1) refuse the shipment, or 2) accept what I get. Sheesh! I always thought Amazon.com was a pretty reliable source, but am beginning to have my doubts.
