4 out of 5 stars This receiver was EXACTLY what I was looking for.   December 26, 2008
I chose this receiver because of its price-to-features ratio. I don't have a lot of audio/video equipment so this receiver was perfect for me. It has all of the capabilities and video connections you would expect from pricier receivers, but without all of the unecessary bells and whistles. It was easy to hook up and easy to use. I would recommend it to any average home user.

4 out of 5 stars Great for the price!   December 22, 2008
I replaced an 8 year old Denon receiver and I couldn't be happier. I especially liked the automatic setup feature.

I gave it a 4-star rating because I wish the remote had backlit keys.

5 out of 5 stars Onkyo A/V receiver is good   December 21, 2008
Onkyo making very good a/v receiver and Amazon.com is very very fast shipping, it like "air shipping". Thanks

4 out of 5 stars Solid   December 16, 2008
I think this is a really good product. My only wish was a little more power, but for movies and playing music using 5 channels in a small family room its good. The remote works on my 5 separate brand name components flawlessly. Lots of bass, and if you like games like G-Hero or RBand in stereo, you could do a lot worse.

1 out of 5 stars HDMI--what's the point?   December 14, 2008
4 out of 5 found this review helpful

I purchased this HDMI receiver thinking it was a great deal. When I started hooking it up, I realized it wasn't such a great deal!! This receiver DOES NOT extract the audio from the HDMI cables. All info is sent to the TV. If you want audio for your surround system, you need to hook up a separate audio link.
Second, although this receiver has multiple input types (i.e. S-video, HDMI, composite, component) they do NOT all transmit via the HDMI out. For EACH type of connection TO the receiver, you MUST have that same connection FROM your receiver to the TV. Multiple cable hook-ups was a problem I wanted to eliminate.
Finally, I too had the humming sound. I found the only way to eliminate the humming was to have HDMI hooked directly to the TV, bypassing the receiver. SO WHAT'S THE POINT of having HDMI??!!
I regret not reading other reviews, as it would have saved me a lot of time, trouble, and frustration. I am returning this receiver, as the HDMI is virtually useless. Although it's very inexpensive, I could simply continue using my old, non-HDMI, receiver.
