Good Choice at a great price August 13, 2010 GregHallentown I was looking to update my Yamaha RXV850 when I came across the 1065 for $400. For that price it is an unbelievable value. I read a review that claims the receiver seemed to "run out of power" and am not sure what they are talking about. I paired this to my Paradigm 9semk3 speakers, Polk 505 12" subwoofer and let me tell you by the time you are at +1.00 the house was shaking. I then added a new pair of JBL ES30 speakers and Martin Logan center channel and it was all I could ask for. The Yamaha auto speaker set up is great. Clearly having all of the video routed thru this unit is a charm and makes life easier. My only issue is getting a handle on all of the programmed scenes for playback. You need to spend time studying to get the max out of the unit although you good just stick with the best two or three setups. Would I recommend this for audio and visual management? Absolutely.
What happened to the price??? August 6, 2010 Eigen (Clearwater, FL) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
All "paths" lead to Amazon.com, and state that the price is going to be $399. Yet, when you arrive here, the price is $499 -- what happened???
OK, but not great. July 31, 2010 Brian (Reading, PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this unit to add surround sound to a second room in my house. The unit has a clean look and a large number of features. Sound quality is decent, better than a lot of other units in this price range, but not great. The audio is very clean, no hiss at all, however it's seems to run out of power quickly. (Doesn't feel like a 100+ watt amplifier.) The remote control is a little maddening, you never seem to have all of the functions you need available under a particular "scene". The HDMI connections are fantastic in that one cable now carries the video and audio (including SACD & DVD-A multichannel audio which I used to have to run a separate set of analog cables for). It certainly simplified hookup. However, when switching between HDMI inputs, it can take the receiver up to 30 seconds before it starts reproducing the picture and and sound. (30 seconds feels like forever.)
All in all it's not a bad receiver, but it's not a great one either. My main setup uses a Yamaha RX-V2400 which seems "leaps and bounds" better than this unit, but it was a bit more expensive. (I wonder if a similarly priced Yamaha to my RX-V2400 would be as good as my RX-V2400.)
Since it meets my immediate needs, I'm okay with it. However, knowing what I know now, I probably would have gone with a slightly higher model.
Enjoy.
A Receiver That Does Not "Receive" March 21, 2010 Rex R. Vaughn 4 out of 12 found this review helpful
This otherwise fine unit has a fatal design flaw with the performance of the FM radio receiver. Even with very strong local FM stations, the receiver can't hold on to the signal for more than a few seconds. Tune to a station, wait several seconds, signal acquired, then in a few seconds the signal drops, no sound for several seconds, gets it back for a few seconds, cycle repeats. This is with an outdoor antenna with a coax feed and amplified 1:2 splitter (also took splitter out of the coax feed, no change). If the FM station is broadcasting in HD, the receiver stays locked on and performs well. As a comparison, I reconnected my old Yamaha HTR-5250 to the same antenna feed and got more than double the number of FM stations. The local non-HD FM stations that failed on the RX-V1065 were pegging the signal strength meter on the HTR-5250. AM reception on either receiver is terrible.
The FM reception problem occurred on two different units (returned the first unit, got a replacement, same problem, took it back, full refund).
If you are looking for a receiver that can actually receive, the Yamaha RX-V1065 will surely disappoint you.
Fine receiver with rca outputs for front, center and rear (and a great tuner for HD and FM) December 23, 2009 GA (Georgia) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have had this receiver for a few months now. I use it as a preamp with Adcom for the front and Hafler for the rear along with Definitive Tech speakers and an 18" Velodyne. I tried it as an integrated amp and thought it was fine, but I am fussy and like to use my more powerful amps. I am very pleased with the imaging and detail that is typical of Yamaha. I guess someone got a lemon, because I was impressed with the tuner, especially the HD. The microphone setup of the speaker system is also a plus, allowing for adjustments in room acoustics.
