Sounds amazing.....but major flaws August 26, 2010 Chase Anthony Hogan (texas city,tx) I purchased this receiver about two weeks ago the sound is amazing, very detailed, great highs and mids but too much bass, I have the bass on the tone level set to -10 and the 160hz and 400hz on the EQ set to -10 on my mains/surrounds and back surounds, I have seven JA-Audio JA-D2's and two JA-SS10 powered subwoofers, the freq. rating on the JA-D2's are 170hz to 20khz, The RX-V765 does not have LFE level setting and when you go to speaker config.and set the crossover freq. it affects all the speakers including the subs, when set to 40hz the subs sound deep and clean at high volume, but the JA-D's start fading out due to its freq. rating and overload protection circuit but when the crossover freq. is set to anything above 40hz the subs sound boxy and dull,I contacted Yamaha about the issue and there was no solution except to have boxy and dull sounding subs or sound loss in the speakers at high volume,I spoke to a JA-Audio rep. and they recomended Onkyo receivers which have seperate crossover freq. settings for the mains/surrounds/back surrounds and subs,The 1 star is not for sound, but for the lack of crossover freq. settings for each set of channles , and no LFE level setting.
Yamaha RX-V76VL - Most bang for your buck August 22, 2010 EricN After comparing units at the store, I decided that this would give the most value for cost. The important features were the 1080p upscaling, multiple HDMI inputs, multiple digital inputs, and a single HDMI output. The power/wattage was important, and perhaps most important was the ability to have an A and B channel output. That way I can run one audio source in my family room, and push a 2nd audio source to my back porch via the B channel. The unit is simple to set up, simple to operate, and I couldn't possibly be happier with how smoothly and quickly the purchase / shipping process went.
great receiver August 20, 2010 royd This receiver replaced a Denon in our living room and is a great buy. It has all of the features we needed plus some we don't and Yamaha sound quality (and hopefully reliability).
Like any home theater receiver, set-up is a pain... lots of things to connect but the YPAO worked well.
All in all, I'm very pleased with the purchase
TiVoHD Owners Beware August 2, 2010 Frank Hamilton (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was really excited to get this unit. It was my first new receiver in years and based on the excellent reviews I thought I had found the perfect receiver. Unfortunately there is a drawback I can't get around, it does not play well with TiVo HD. Every time I change the channel on the TiVo the Yamaha re-seeks the audio source which results in a digital "chirp." I called both TiVo and Yamaha, who both blamed the problem on each other and pretty much told me "too bad." Also, I researched this quite a bit and this is something that has happened to many other people and apparently has been a problem for at least a year and neither company seems to be making any moves to fix the issue.
The bottom line is I wish I could keep this receiver. It was easy to set up, great sounding, amazing value for the money, but at the end of the day it doesn't work properly with my primary audio source, my TiVo.
Hi end audiophile sound for less than $400 May 18, 2010 M. Haniffa 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love my 765. I have to admit I am still learning what this thing can do. I sometimes feel it is like HAL from 2001 odyssey. I feel it is thinking. Thinking how it can scare its owner....
The installation was a breeze. I have this hooked up to my PS3, FIOS, speaker system (Mirage and Dayton Subwoofer). It knocked the socks out when I heard Lord of the Rings. All I could say was "Shiver Me Timbers" when I heard the Orukai war chants... SERIOUSLY. I kid you not. I got this from Electronic Expo for a fantastic deal. Cannot say enough about E-Expo. One of the best online electronic stores. I will update my review as I get to know my 765.
