4 out of 5 stars Great amp, takes awhile to setup, after that you ready to rock   August 31, 2010
Peter Palagonia (new york)
Purchased this amp through this site, to replace my Yamaha RXV2950 Flagship amp from 1999. Wanted to go to 1 wire hook up and get rid of the miles of wire I used to have. I did the initial setup with the Ypao microphone Yamaha supplies. Worked pretty well, and was really amazed how accurate it was on speaker distance to seating. Still wasn't quite there so I went to a manual setup with my RadioShack meter. Much better after the test setup. In the amplifier programs there is the automatic and manual set up. Go with the manual setup, and go through all the speaker settings. There is a volume setting for each speaker, be sure all speakers are set to same db.Set up the distance for delays. We were doing good, but I noticed that dvds that I watched in the past the audio (midrange)was lacking. Hmmmm Finally found in one of the sub sub menus there is a setting for auto EQ or manual.I set amp to manual and started tweeking the eqaualizer especially the mids. Back to the movie, and now it sounded like it should. Player my Phil Collins concert video and the guitar rifs and cymbals were jumping out. Love the amp just takes a few weeks to find all the stuff it does and set the bad boy correctly.Yamaha RX-V1900BL 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black)

5 out of 5 stars HUGE Bang for your buck!   August 28, 2010
Timothy K. Bryant (Chicago)
This is one receiver I plan on keeping for a long time. I've been trying several receivers over the past 3-4 years and I feel as if I finally found one that does pretty much everything I want & does it very well! The positives are great sound & power, plenty of inputs for HDMI, fantastic upscaling to 1080p for my Tivo which is 1080i, plenty of sound modes, the list goes on. It's not perfect, it's one of the few receivers where I had to really look through the owners manual. Although after the first 4-5 hours of playing with the options, it became a cinch moving around the menus and changing options. Some of the initial mic setups were a little off but nothing too major and they were easily remedied after a few trial and error playthroughs. You'd be hard pressed to find a receiver that does what this does for the price!

5 out of 5 stars fantastic receiver   August 28, 2010
Onepoorguy (Sonoran Desert)
I could not be happier with this unit. It is spectacular! Numerous inputs, HDMI that works without hassles, HD up-converting so I don't have to pay for HD TV, and it even calibrates itself using the included microphone.

This receiver is at the high-end of the mid-range of receivers. There are cheaper units out there (that aren't nearly as good), and there are better units out there (that cost several times more). But for the money it is very difficult to beat this unit. And, frankly, very few people have the ear to appreciate the difference between this receiver and others costing much more.

I am very pleased with this unit, and I'm very fussy about my audio. You cannot go wrong with this receiver.

And regarding the vendor, there was a problem with the first unit they sent. They handled it, sent me a new one, no hassle. They paid for return shipping of the defective unit, and the new one arrived quickly. They made it painless, and I appreciate that level of service.

The system is great but it takes some getting used to when you try to program the remote to customize it with your routine. Programming the am/fm stations seems to be the most challenging but I think I can master it okay,

If you are in to this kind of equipment, you cannot go wrong buying a V1900 receiver. It is top of the line.

By the way, the best place to purchase equipment of this kind is Amazon. They treat you right and will stand behind everything they sell.
