Yamaha RX-397 August 25, 2010 MJD This amplifier is all it is claimed to be....and more. I owned a series of amlifiers and was recently using a Wintek R1120..fine amp but well over 40 years old. I am running into 8 ohm impedence Fisher ST 832 ported 3 way speakers (with the impressive 17 inch woofer...the days when they still made audiophile gear) as A and Yamaha NS-A500 3-way speakers as B. The quality is unbelievable. I only received this unit this evening: a breeze to install. Even with my older DVDs, Traviatta, Butterfly and Tchaikowsky's violin concerto (the ones tried so far) come through with new clarity and depth. It is a basic audiophile receiver. It does not act as a home theater, have an alarm or axctivate the coffeemake. However, it does what it was intended to do superbly. Worth every penny!!
Great sound quality May 25, 2010 B. Shakey (Wisconsin) Replaced my Harman Kardon receiver with this Yamaha. Ten fold sound quality improvement. No bells and whistles, but pure audiophile quality at a great price.
Replacement Stereo April 28, 2010 Allen 3 (CAPE CORAL, FL, US) I had a Sony stereo for over ten years. It finally quit and while searching the internet for a replacement, I encountered the Yamaha RX-397 ad. It appeared to be exactly what I needed and now that I have it, I find that it is indeed the perfect replacement -- easy to set up and use and with excellent sound quality. The remote also allows me to control the "B" speakers on my lanai with ease. Very satisfied.
Great! April 11, 2010 Randy L. Nash (MN) Works just like it said.
Sound is Great! Easy to use and hook up.
RX-397 April 8, 2010 Atwood L. Burns (Chicago, IL) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
The RX-397 is satisfactory. However, I feel that the Yamaha model R500 was a better quality unit in terms of sound and control switch setups.
