2 out of 5 stars just ok   September 3, 2010

I purchased this player a year ago price was good, plays dvd's but not blu-ray discs. I'm not hooked up to internet. I'm sure a need a firmware update, I called LG for help, guess what, no help at all, asked to send a disc, no disc, it has been 2 months now so I'm in the market for a new player, I have a Samsung LN46B650, any suggestions for a new BD player will be helpful, not into netflix just want something that will play blu-ray discs. Bottom line buy another BD player. Don't waste your money.

Great gift for my dad for Christmas. It is a little light on the features, but it is still good.

1 out of 5 stars Piece of junk; Blu-ray technology is flawed   August 26, 2010

It's incredible the amount of aggravation I get from being all excited when a new movie comes out, bringing it home, unwrapping the plastic, and putting it in my blu ray player, so I can watch it recognize the disc, start to load, and then just sit there. And not play the movie. I would give it more stars for picture and sound quality, but it would have to play the discs first. I have the most current firmware, and even if a movie plays, it loses audio sync partway through the movie, and it's like I'm watching a 70's kung fu movie. Not exactly the high definition experience they advertise.

Part of this is LG's fault, for making a crappy player, and some of it is blu ray for crippling the discs with copyright protection that make all the firmware updates a necessity. They need to have the firmware roll out to the players first, then the movies. This is BS that I have to wait until LG gets around to writing the new firmware, so that I can watch the movies I've already purchased.

I'm just going to start pirating the movies and streaming them from my HTPC.

3 out of 5 stars worked great....at first   August 25, 2010

I bought this player in nov 09 and it worked great at first. about 8 months after purchase the unit began over heating and freezing alot. progressively it stopped working all together. I downloaded the updates and installed them . Unfortunately this did not help. LG offers a one year warranty on parts alone. the labor warranty is only 90 days. When I called them about the repairs i was told i would be charged 70 dollars to repair the unit. at that point i figured what is the point of the warranty then?! I did nothing to make this unit malfunction. the rep said she would try to get the labor fee waived but could not guarantee anything. At this point I would rather buy another unit that wont die after 8 months than pay more money for something that may break again in 8 months .

1 out of 5 stars Worked great for 6 months...   August 15, 2010

We were very pleased with this player until it stopped reading blu-ray discs. If you're super lucky you can get it to read one, but mostly it just makes a funny noise and says "disc error".
